About Amina Vohra:



Amina's Dance School director, Amina Vohra teaches Tues., Wed., and Thurs. with help from her assistant teachers. She invented the Nightclub Dancing Class idea and even got of Fox 5 News because of it. Amina has performed her fusion dance at such venues as the Kennedy Center and has been a judge for local dance competitions. Amina has 21 years of training in dance and has been training and performing since early childhood in many kinds of dances. She loves to teach beginners and has developed a fool proof method of teaching seemingly difficult steps to the slowest of beginners.

Amina loves all aspects of dance and has been invited to be a judge at dance competitions including the Macdonald Dance Competition as well as the Muqabla 2008 dance competition. She is also an elegant and classy solo fusion dance performer and cultural educator at Corporate events and Family parties. Amina also has performed at such prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center, the World Bank, University of Maryland, Image-in-Asian Television, the Independent Film Terror in the Pharoah's Tomb, as well as charity shows and cultural programs. Her performances consists of explanations and history of each kind of dance, a fusion dance performance using props such as wings, cane, veil, and sword, audience involvement, a dance lesson for the audience, as well as questions and answers. The performance lasts between 15 to 45 minutes and the Fusion consists of Classical Indian Dance, Bollywood Dance, Middle Eastern Dance, and American Style Modern Dance.

Amina has been attending all kinds of dance lessons and performing since the age of 3. She has studied Classical Indian Dance, Indian folk dance (Bollywood), Flamenco, Middle Eastern Belly Dance, Tap, Hip-Hop, Hula, Tahitian, Swing, and Salsa. She strives to make her school friendly, fair, and community oriented like the classes she took growing up. In fact, unlike many of the current adult dance schools in the area, these classes are small enough that people get a chance to know each other by name basis. Amina has been teaching since she was a teen as a volunteer and even in college as a volunteer and has been professionally teaching for 3 years.
Amina is a writer, painter, designer and webmaster of this site, actress, dance performer, teacher, and choreographer. She thought up the idea for Hip-Hop for Night club Dancing Class. Amina is also the creator of her own style of Belly, Indian, and Hip-Hop Fusion Dance and has in the past had a few dance performance troupes and currently does solo performances of Belly and Indian Dance fusion at parties and corporate events. Amina is a College Graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a double degree in Human Computer Interaction and Creative Writing as well as a double minor in communication design and multimedia authoring. In college she taught for one year and took part in the University's performance group for 4 years.
